"Shark Lady" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 07/20/11

The Myers family from Raleigh, N.C. joined Captain Chris Dew and Captain Zach Faulkner today on a near shore trip.  The ladies spoke like they had a great time.  The queen for the day was Olivia Carlino, pictured with her catch and release shark.

Captain Chris said the pogies were thick from Little River to the Shallotte Inlet in @ 30 ft. of water depth.  He also said the water temp. in the ICW was 89 degrees and 87 near shore.  Sharks, 87 degree water?  Anyone care for a refreshing dip?

"Shark Hunter" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 07/20/11

The title is "Shark Hunter".  Those of us who fish know our waters has it's fair share, plus, of sharks. Shark Week on The Discovery Channel is upon us but there's no reason to become a couch potato and just watch it on TV.  You can charter with the OIFC and be a part of the Shark Week action like these folks from mid-west N. Carolina did.

Will you ever go back in the water again?!!!  Come shark fishing with us then make your decision.

***The gaff in the pics was used solely to remove the hooks.  There are a select few species of shark that are eatable.  So far our customers have decided to enjoy the fight and release their sharks to fight another battle.

"Smack down " | Get Busy | 07/19/11

Captain Jeff put the smack down on the flounder today at an artificial reef just off shore using live shrimp.  The bite was so hot that Capt. Jacob and his charter got in on the action.

Accompanying Capt. Jeff were Dereck Register, Ted Register, Luke Logan and Ken Haney.  It would appear the near shore flounder bite is heating up!

The pics and dock report are by OIFC Cub Dock Reporter Katy Bartholomew.

"Foggy Pics!" | Get Busy | 07/19/11

A couple of days ago, Captain Jeff Williamson charter fished with Spencer Brown, Scott Browder, and Carl Horn of Charlotte, N.C.  This was the 1st time the guys had fished with J. Dogg.  They caught 3 keeper red drum, several throw back flounder as well as a plethora of other ichthyoid creatures.

The picture and info is by OIFC cub reporter and birthday girl Katelyn Kinser. The poor quality is not fault of the cub reporter.  The gaff cam spent too much time underwater and fogged up.  My apologies to the guys.

"Ben's Redfish" | Tiberias - 22' | 07/16/11

Mr. Sam Smart, daughter Mary-Curtis, and nephew Ben joined us for a half day trip yesterday. We pulled a lot of tricks out of the bag yesterday trying to get the redfish to bite. Drifted live shrimp over oyster bars with a split shot, cork, jighead, and plan ole carolina rig with little results. I dropped the trolling motor and pulled out the artificials. Mr. Smart and myself worked a string of docks and a series of bars with no luck on several different colors and brands of bait. We headed for another area to get mullet minnows and try them under some docks. Finally...one redfish drilled a bait and Ben was hooked up on his first redfish. I had the honor of netting the fish and seeing a big smile! We fed every mullet we had to the pinfish after that. We still had a little bit of time, so I caught another few dozen mullet minnows and moved around to a flounder hole. Got everyone set up and I made a cast for myself. Thump! There he is! Switched rods with Mary-Curtis and she landed our first keeper flounder. Sweet! Next cast and thump! Ben on the rod! Ben went 6 flounder for 9 cast. Mary-Curtis went 3 for 4 on her last 4 cast. Finally, Mr. Smart got one on his last cast. We ended the day with a blast. Thank goodness! See ya on the water!

"Black Drum" | Get Busy | 07/15/11

Below is a picture of Tim Gallimore's 4.5 lb. black drum he caught while fishing the Shallotte River with Thomas Willis.  They were using live shrimp on a "channelside" rig.

Not to sound anymore ignorant than I am, I'll have to find out exactly what a channelside rig is before I can answer any questions.

Thanks for the info. Tim, and let me know what a channelside rig is!

"New Team" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 07/14/11

Father and son combo Butch Myers and Jeremy Myers of Black Mountain, N.C. recently purchased and upgraded a nice Grady White and formed a new father-son team to be reckoned.  A few days ago they were "sort of at the Horseshoe" when Jeremy hooked up and landed his 1st mahi.  Butch said the seas became sporty on the way back in but it looks like the Grady got them home ship shape.

Congratulations on your 1st mahi.  The mahi was hooked, and now I expect that ya'll are too  Thanks for the report and for being loyal OIFC customers!.

****Update!! Butch just sent me a picture of his 1st mahi.  They've definately got a boat who knows how to mahi fish!
