"Just In Time" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 06/13/11

Check out the kings Shane, Devon, Kimberly Britt and Chad Millard caught this weekend.  Shane reports they caught their fish in 50 ft of water using naked pogies.  They landed 4 kings, one 28#, one in the 20's and the other two were teenagers.

Check out the fishing reports for the past week and you'll see the king action is picking up just in time for the Jolly Mon.

Also, I got an unconfirmed report that a king was caught off the Ocean Isle Beach Pier.  This goes along with Rube's prediction that this year's bite will be a shore bite.

"Hunt Golfs?" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 06/12/11

Corey Bellamy and his uncle Patrick Bellamy landed these this morning.  They were using pogies they caught between the Little River Jetties and Sunset Beach.  Then he wanted to know if I wanted to go golfing with him and Capt. Chris Burrows tomorrow.  I'm not sure if my sportsmans license will cover golf hunting.  Do I need a stamp for that?

"Afternoon Bite" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 06/12/11

Zach Hayes and his buddy Clark Hales from Oak Island caught these nice mahi at the Horseshoe using skirted cigar minnows.  Zach said the bite turned on in the afternoon after most of the boats had left.

"Millie's 1st Mahi" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 06/12/11

Bart and Millie Norwood fished the 90's, making it out there bright and early at 11 am.  They noticed several boats working the area, so they began putting lines out about a mile from the numbers.  The 1st line hadn't been in the water but a minute or so before Millie's 1st ever mahi hit it.  We hope this gets Millie hooked on salt water fishing.  The sport needs more lady anglers.

"Flounder and Red Drum" | Get Busy | 06/11/11

Captain Jeff Williamson, aka J. Dogg of the OIFC Get Busy in shore charters fished with Mike McGurrey today.  The weather was fantastic as was the fishing.  The two of them caught 10 flounder and this 26" drum.  Jeff said they released them all because they had Fleas?

Captain William Parker said he released some catfish because they had fleas and I caught a couple of dog sharks with them too.  Anyone else experiencing this infestation problem other than us?

Also, unless Jeff is faking us out with this picture, I expect I know where everyone will be fishing after they read this report.

"Double Shot" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 06/10/11

Both OIFC Cat boats had full day charters today.  Captain Brant on the World Cat and Captains Steele and Zach on the Carolina Cat.  Both boats returned to the docks at about 4:30 pm with their missions accomplished.  Captain Steele and Captain Zach were running a charter booked by Gary Whitten.  They took this humble reporter's "gaff cam" on the trip.  Below are a series of photos which document their fruitful day.

"Go Tigers!" | Tiberias - 22' | 06/09/11

Mitch, Collin, and Joe joined me for a half day trip today. We started early this morning looking for reds and black drum. Collin landed a nice red, but that was it in our first area. We headed for the Shallote Inlet and picked up several flounder. We ended the day with 3 keepers. We caught most of the flounder on tiger minnows. It was a perfect fit as Mitchell Crawford played for the Clemson Tigers in the late 90's. Go Tigers! Tiger minnows can be located on any sandbar at low tide. The chartureuse diamond claimed a few fish, but no keepers on the jig today. Thanks for fishing with us guys! See ya next year!

"Tuff Day" | Get Busy | 06/09/11

Yesterday was rough on our Captains.  The SW wind made for snotty conditions and beat them pretty by.  It also made for terrible fishing conditions and long faces.  Our guys like to catch fish for their charter customer and after some very productive days they were disappointed yesterday.  Both cat boats are out today.  Let's hope yhe wind cooperates.

In shore was a different story though.  Capt. J Dogg of the "Get Busy/OIFC" and Will King flounder fished.  They caught a a couple hand fulls of flounder.  Most were short, but made for a fun day anyhow.

Yesterday was also a sad day for the OIFC family with the passing of Grandma Mac.  Please keep the McMullan family in your prayers.

"Grandma Mac McMullan passed today" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 06/08/11

Vera "Grandma Mac" McMullan, the fishing matriarch of the McMullan family died this morning peacefully at age 90. She was the founder/teacher/leader of our family's involvement with salt water fishing, having introduced Rube and sister Deborah to pier fishing for King Mackerel at Carolina Beach many years ago. Over the years, many grandkids, and many many great grandkids are now excellent fishermen and lady anglers, all as a result of her love of salt water fishing. We will be having a visitation at Brunswick Funeral Services[on Hwy 17] tomorrow evening[Thursday] from 5-7pm. Come on by and join us in telling fish stories as a celebration to her life.

"No Camera " | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 06/08/11

Why is it that whenever you need a camera there's not one around?  That's what Captain Jetter Lewis, and his crew of Rickie Rozier and Allen Grooms were asking when they hooked up with a 5 1/2 ft. sail fish 3 miles in shore of the Horseshoe Saturday. The sail hit a downrigger baited with a ballyhoo at about 7:30 am.

"Jolly Mon pre-tourney fishing report" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 06/08/11

I was out on the water yesterday and here is what I noted. The water is as clear as I can ever remember seeing. This due to long period of stable weather. There are numerous schools of pogies up and down the beach, with bluefish[2lbers] wearing the pogies out. I don't think I've ever seen the conditions better for a beach bite. In fact, I think there is real danger of big King Mackerel jumping into fishermens boats as they run along the beach. Be on alert when approaching pogy schools[yes, it happened to me once before]. Guaranteed the word gets out to the King population of whats going on up and down the beach and they will be here to eat. Should be a beach bite Jolly Mon. Standby for more reports.

"The 90's & Twin Cities" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 06/07/11

Steve Martin, and Billy Schartiger of W. Va. fished with Captains Chris Dew and Chris Eckert today.  The guys hooked up on 2 nice cobia who went straight to the wreck at the Twin Cities and cut themselves free.  But they didn't come home empty handed.  They brought home some snapper, spanish and AJ.

Also the pogies were thick between the Shallotte Inlet and the Holden Beach pier and some were "2 hand" big.

Captain Chris Dew and Captain Zach Faulkner went to the Gulf Stream with Tom Russell and his sons Craig and Ed.  They spent part of their day fishing 350 ft deep, 85 degree water using ballyhoo.  Tom was the winner for the day with his 32.3 lb bull mahi which he fought for about an hour.
