"Fish weather this week" | OIFC | 05/22/16

We have a little cold front moving thru this morning which will put us under a steady dome of high pressure for this next week. That means lite seas and considering where we are in the calendar it means this is the best opportunity to take advantage of our May gulf stream fishing for tuna/mahi/wahoo. Once the water warms the concentration of fish along the break will dissapate and they will be scattered. All this week is the time to go. Also I bet with the steady weather pattern, the beach King bite will continue off Ocean Crest as well as good kng action in the 65 foot water spots.

In the words of fishing guru Capt Lentz..."Boys, May only comes once a year and you don't know how many more May's you will have".

It appears the Town of Ocean Isle has been successful in getting approval to build the terminal groin system at the east end of the island at Shallotte Inlet. I don't claim to have any knowledge of the science of whether or how these systems work in terms of stopping beach erosion; HOWEVER I can spot a fishing hole when I see it. The groin should give us a fishing spot similar to Little River Jetties. Flounder/Trout/Redfish and who knows what else may be attracted to the rock structure. Congrats to the Town of OIB staff, Mayor and Council for their persistence in getting this approval.

In talking to the Town, it is believed this will be a 2017 project.

"Rest in Peace" | OIFC | 05/17/16

This is a picture of Radar when he was tournament fishing. I am sure many folks remember seeing the Chevy sponsored boat.

Radar was a good fisherman and a better man -- nice as they come.  A lot of knowledge in that head.  He was THE guy to get your trailer fixed with.  Radar was also Anita Moore's father, who used to be the OIFC manager for many years.  We keep her and family in our thoughts.

Tight lines Radar
