Capt. Chris Dew and 1st Mate Derreck Treffinger were joined today aboard the World Cat by Milton Bailey, Lew Hankes, Kevin Cotter, George James, Ann Turner and Henry Huie, Jr. for a very productive fishing charter to the River Channel. They landed these kings using pogeys. Great trip folks and thanks for fishing with the OIFC.
Story and picture by Doc. Terry of the OIFC Staff.
Mr. Rusty Russ stopped by the OIFC to buy some 90 oct ethenal free Marathon fuel and showed me the picture below of the drum his son-in-law Jimmy Pendergrass caught while fishing with Rust's son Andy and Rusty today at the Little River Jetties.
Sounded just like a NASCAR driver when I plugged our fuel.
The Fishing Report always has pictures of the many flounder Capt. Tommy Helms catches. Not only is Tommy a great fisherman, a colorful character, but he is a good man who enjoys life and sharing it with his friends. Below are some pictures of a fish fry Tommy had for his many friends. This reporter regrettably had to miss the good fish and fellowship. Maybe next time.
Miss Sydney Sauls came to the OIFC and proudly told me she caught a big red drum. I'm not sure who was the proudest Sydney or her dad Bonecrusher. I know I am happy for my little Crossfit buddy!
By the way as I am posting this I am watching Sydney and Sloan's mom win Dancing With The Brunswick County Stars. They are a whole family of stars.
Team Wishful Thinking decided to brave the cool north wind today and fished near shore. For the 2nd day in the row they brought a king to the OIFC Docks. This time they found pogies in the Little River Jetties and caught a 22.6 lb king behind the jetties just off Waites Island. This was Zach James 1st king.
Thank you guys for stopping by the OIFC and letting us weigh and get pictures of your fish. Congratulations Zach. Now you're hooked.
Judging by the pictures Corey Bellamy had a pretty good day today king fishing aboard his Donzi "Choice of Two". He fished with his Dad and and a friend of his Dad's, Corey said there was a pretty strong bite at the 90's leading up to the Fall Brawl.
The father son duo of Frank and Brice Byrum along with Nelson Bowling fished the 90's using pogies aboard the "Wishful Thinking". They hit pay dirt catching kings and some nice spanish. The ocean was so smooth today you could skip a rock on it.
The fishing really heats up in October, just in time for the Fall Brawl. We are all looking forward to seeing Tournament Director, Capt. Brant back in action MC'ing the event. The last time I saw him was this afternoon laid out like an old dog asleep in the sun on the Yellowfin. Seems he and Capt. Barrett had a busy morning fishing.
Eddy Jones is proof that Capt. Brant's Custom Cast Nets are the real deal and can stand up to most any test. Last week while throwing on some pogies at the Shallotte Inlet Eddy caught a 28" red drum.
A couple of years ago Capt. Jeff Beck caught a 42" drum at the Shallotte Inlet doing the same thing. We're still using the same net.
