"May 8 Gulf Stream" | Real-Time Update | 05/14/13

We started out heading toward the Blackjack Hole. With about 15 miles to go we began seeing a lot of flying fish and good water temps. After a few more miles we pulled back and Capt. Derek began deploying our spread. I sent a cedar plug way back as he dropped a blue/white rigged ballyhoo on the left long rigger. Before he could complete the spread we had our first Mahi on. From that point we had a consistent bite for the remainder of the day. We worked on toward the BJ and fished 78 degree water with several more mahi paying us a visit. At 1 o'clock we switched tactics and jigged along the ledge. Both wind and seas had picked up just enough to make jigging a challenge. We did manage a few AJ's. I decided to move inshore to about 120-130 feet and bottomed fished there. We were rewarded with a mixed bag of grouper, snapper, and triggerfish. To Russ Hayes and friends,we thank you for choosing us to be your charter crew. A great group of guys and we look forward to fishing with you again.

Fished the Shark Hole today and had a good mix of species to keep us busy. In addition to the ever present sea bass, we caught bluefish, gray trout and sheepshead as well as a few other species. Water was 65 degrees and marked a lot of suspended bait.

"Dr. Lendall Suh Report" | Do Work / OIFC | 05/13/13

I wanted to share some fishing phots. I will be unable to fish the Far Out Shoot Out because I am back in Cincinnati and preparing for a medical mission to the country of Jordan. Nevertheless I wanted to share some info to help the tournament participants.

We fished the area of 100/400 and Blackjack on Thursday and caught 8 Dolphin and 2 Wahoos both under 35 pounds. We had better weather on Friday at the Winyah Scarp area (we were able to run home in 1 hour and 25 minutes at 50+mph comfortably). We caught 8 Dolphin and 2 quality Wahoos which measured 56 inches and 59 inches and produced citations for my out of town guests.
The size of the dolphin and wahoo were better in the southern areas. If I were fishing the Far Out Shootout, I would fish the Winyah Scarp area.

Attached are some photos.

Thank you for your report and good luck on your mission Dr. Suh.

As always, if you have a repor with picturest you would like to shar email them to me at sunset69@atmc.net.

"Backwater Report" | Tiberias - 22' | 05/12/13

I fished all day with Frank and Mack from the windy city of Chicago on Saturday. The action in the backwater has been sluggish. We headed back towards Tubbs lnlet to drift for flounder. We found a few short fish, but nothing too impressive. We started working the grass line edges with mirrolures looking for trout. We got a really good bite, but the trout some how escaped from three treble hooks. We worked the bridge area and found two rather large stingrays. We moved into the cement canals and never got a significant bite. We decided to try our luck up the Shallotte River, it couldn't get any worse, right? We found a sheepshead and a black drum very quickly, but that was it. I have talked to several folks over the last few days and the bite has really been tough inside. It appears that most of the action is happening around the low tide period in the afternoon. The water temperature is getting right for the action to bust loose anyday now. We are going to stick with it and we will report the action when it happens. See ya on the water!

"Gulf Stream Action" | Tiberias - 22' | 05/12/13

Butch invited me to fish with him in the gulf stream this past Friday. It has been awhile since I have been in action out there. We headed for the 100/400 area and had our spread set just short of the mark. We ran a spread of 9 lines including teasers. We had a mix of daisy chains, cedar plugs, tuna feathers, sea witches, and ballyhoo rigged on a planer rod. The tuna feather on the long line produced our first mahi. The planer rod produced both wahoo and a nice mahi. We continued to work the area tightening up our spread with each pass fine tuning our game plan. We stayed busy with several short strikes, knock downs, and the planer rod tripping. We watch mahi check out the teasers and bump the daisy chains. As always it was very exciting to be out there in that situation. We made one last pass over the hot spot and all seven lines got knocked down in a hurry. Only two lines stayed tight though, the inside rigger blue and white and the planner rod. I so wanted to stay, but we had a long ride ahead of us. We feel that we ended the day respectable. Two wahoo and 4 mahi with one being a beautiful 20# bull. Plenty of great eating! Thanks Butch for getting me back out there! See ya on the water!
