"King tourney report" | OIFC | 09/30/13

Sounds like fish were doing their typical late September thing where they were widely scatterred in Rumble tourney this weekend. Leading fish came from Yaupon to 90's to Jungle area. Will be interesting to see if fish figure out it is US Open this coming weekend and they show up in mass in River Channel as it seems they always do. Looking at stable summer type weather this week, my guess is the weather will win out over the calendar and fish will still be scattered. What we need is for a strong cold front to get here and cool water so fish will move to the beach. We'll keep posted on what we see this week.

"More Big Drum..." | Tiberias - 22' | 09/30/13

What a weekend! The wind has been howling from the North and East! Don't let that slow you down. The jetties have been a little sloppy, but very fishable. We have taken advantage of the Fall drum bite and been there on most trips. We have yet to be disappointed...we are not catching numbers of fish, but we are catching some over 40 inches. It has been great to see so many folks enjoying this fishery. See ya on the water!

"Don't Miss It!!!" | Tiberias - 22' | 09/29/13

The action is pretty steady out at the jetties. If you are looking for a chance to catch that one big drum, now is the time. Big mullet and king size mehanden are the baits of choice. Blue crab chunks may also be a very good bait that could get the bite when others don't seem to be working. Below is a link to a video I shot this past Friday. We went 5 for 5 on the big drum. More reports coming...See ya on the water!

"Shallow water reds..." | Tiberias - 22' | 09/27/13

The last couple of days have been a little more consistent for me. The redfish in the 22 inch range have cooperated well in the creeks. Bob Diseker gets credit for landing our biggest creek fish this week that was 29 1/2 inches. The flounder are sliding in the inlets and some big fish have started to show up. We are starting to see some speckled trout scattered throughout the area. I have caught a couple on each trip this past week and Capt. Jeff's crew drilled a stud earlier this week. The only thing that has me concerned is the lack of live shrimp. I have cast netted several of my favorite creeks the last two days without getting the first shrimp? A little early for them to start disappearing. The water temperature is dropping quickly as one cold front after another pushes through our area. The water temp in the creeks this afternoon was down to 73 degrees. The fish should be chewing the prop of the motor! See ya on the water!

"Citation Flounder" | Do Work / OIFC | 09/26/13

The OIFC.s Amanda Bennett weighed and photographed this slab of a flounder yesterday.  She never could get the scoop on where it was caught...Can you blame him?

"Jettie Slobs" | Do Work / OIFC | 09/26/13

Local in shore greats Henry Beckham & his daughter Virginia Beckham proved that the "slob" red drum are still biting at the Jetties.  Captain Jacob told me the big mullet  are the food of choice if you want to target some fun fish.

Thank you Virginia for the pictures.

"Big Bait=Big Fish" | Tiberias - 22' | 09/26/13

Well, it is that time of year. Some nice redfish are showing up at the jetties, but the bite is not in full swing just yet. The next two weeks should really start to bring the big boys closer to the inlets. The mullet are thick and the bigger the better. See ya on the water!

The caption did not post but this was a trip that Rube and I took on Weds- Mellom group from VA. We caught this 30+ King off the kite and several large sharks on drift lines. We were fishing in 30' of water off Long Beach.

"Sweetcorn Glen from Iowa" | Choice of Two / OIFC | 09/24/13

So I've been taking the Moss family from Iowa fishing for years. Last year nephew Moss put a 5.5 lb citation flounder in the boat on his first salt water fishing trip. This year Ole Glenn and son Dwight landed two slammer reds at 43 and 45 inces and almost added a citation trout. throw in a few flounder and it was a great day on the Get Busy Fishing. You can tell by the photos we covered alot of water on a very windy day. Who says they don't bite on an east wind?

"Kings groupers and a mixed bag of bottom fish" | Real-Time Update | 09/22/13

Had a great weekend of charter fishing with Capt. Derek on friday and Capt Stan on saturday. Both groups were return customers that i had an absolute blast catching up with as well as putting some fish in the boat. Now for the report: the kings are showing up and right on schedule. We caught a very nice class of fish in 75-80 feet of water and I talked to tim gray of team beercuda who caught 3 kings at the 90's. Our best fish was just over 30 lbs on saturday. Like capt Rube mentioned, I fully expect the beach bite to fire off in the next 5-7 days as well based on what I saw the past couple of days. Factor in the next 3-4 days of typical fall NE winds and water on the beach at 76 degrees and it could get epic. As for the bottom fishing, Friday we caught 6 gag groupers in 85 feet of water with beeliners, triggers and seabass mixed in. On saturday, the grouper bite slowed but the class of beeliner and seabass improved. Not sure what caused that but we were happy with the results none the less. I say it all the time when folks ask me "when is the best time of year to fish?" Without a doubt, its fall. Inshore, nearshore and offshore are absolutely wide open. The next 8 weeks are the time. DO NOT MISS THIS FISHING.....Thank you so much for fishing with us guys, hope to see you again soon.

"Backwater on Fire!!" | Tiberias - 22' | 09/21/13

The redfish bite has been entertaining lately. A few black drum and sheepshead are starting to bite as well. The flounder are here and it is possible to find some good fish in the creeks. I have throughly enjoyed the last few trips as several ladies have joined us on the water. Too often wife's let their men go out and enjoy this great sport with out them. Ladies there is room out here for you. The scenery is often breath taking with sea turtles, deer, dolphin, and bald eagles joining us on occassion. Oh yeah! We will get you involved with the fishing experience as well. Just ask these ladies! See ya on the water!
