Bluefin Tuna

 
     
  The most valuble fish in the ocean, the Bluefin Tuna is known to bring upwards of $20 per pound for its meat. The majority of Bluefin caught for market are sold and shipped overseas to Japan where their raw meat is served as a delicacy. In southern NC, the Bluefin are abundant late November through January and average 250-400 pounds. They are an incredibly powerful fish and require very stout tackle to tame them. They are targeted both commercially for their value and recreationally for their great sport. It should be noted that their meat is not considered as good to eat cooked as Yellowfin Tuna and thus if you are not licensed to sell the Bluefin Tuna, it should be released.
