~~North Carolina officials have certified that a Virginia man has set the state record for a white marlin.
Officials with the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries said in a news release Wednesday that Neil Manning of Ashburn, Virginia, reeled in the 138-pound fish Nov. 16 while fishing off Hatteras.
The fish measured 85 inches from the tip of the lower jaw to the fork in the tail. The girth of the fish measured 37 inches.
The previous state record for white marlin was 118 pounds, 8 ounces, caught off the coast of North Carolina's Oregon Inlet in 1976. The world record for white marlin is 181 pounds, 14 ounces, caught off the coast of Brazil.
Manning used live menhaden on a 30-pound test line.

I am working to AMP UP the Spring Kickoff this year. Here is what is on tap thus far:
1- We are making this a 2-day event. Saturday, April 16th (10am-2pm) and Sunday, April 17th (12pm-3pm)
2- In-water fish boat show which will feature boats from Yellowfin, Onslow Bay, Freeman and Contender. Each manufacturer will present their best fishing boat in the 31-34' range with twin power. These boats will be in-water for display and for demo. This is a rare opportunity to see the top level center consoles in the same size range, side by side AND be able to ride them. There will also be additional boats from these manufacturers in the 25-30' range as well.
3- ALL of OIFC will be 20% off. Clothing, gifts, tackle, marine supplies, bait.... (excludes fuel only).
4- Clearance of 50% and more on select tackle and clothing
5- SEMINARS -- I NEED YOUR HELP!!! WHO DO YOU WANT TO SEE AND HEAR FROM? AND WHAT DO YOU WANT TO HEAR ABOUT? COMMENT TO THIS REPORT FOR INPUT.
6- Line spooling from 12#-80# at $.02/yd
MORE TO COME BUT THAT's A START !!!!
I recently read a report on Dave Workman's page that the VuDu 3.5" Mullet is a hot product in Florida. It is fairly new to us but we have it in the OIFC. Let me hear how it produces for you!!!
Thank you to qualifiers and waiting list members who have contacted me about this year's tournament. Once we get a little closer to the tournament (late february-early march) I will be sending all the invitees an email stating that they are invited and when entries will start being accepted. Reminder - entries to this tournament are non-transferrable unless a captain has qualified twice. Meaning they have placed in the top 30 in both the 2015 Jolly Mon and 2015 Fall Brawl. Then one of the two entries can be transferred. If you are unsure of this check the invitee list that can be found here.
Also, I have been impressed with the number of anglers that have filled out the 2016 Jolly Mon VIP survey. Out of 107 participants, 55% would like to enter a 30 boat, $1500 entry tournament and 76% of the 55% would like the tournament to be in the fall. Whats your opinion? Click the quick and simple survey link below if interested in either of these options. https://www.esurveycreator.com/s/e38b570
~~Nothing worse than blowing a engine 60 miles offshore on way home urrrrr , 21 hrs on water is a long day, but 200 lbs of snowy will make my Bistro people HAPPY !

~~Brandon & Clay we have your new Team America gear at the Ocean Isle Fishing Center. We are getting in new products daily. I'm liking the ocean digital break up myself. And for the trout fishermen we have the new VuDu Shrimp with the rattles. The trout bite slowed a little, in my opinion, because the water temp dropped. So the VuDu may be what's required to draw a little extra attention for next week when it is supposed to warm up.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to announce that I am accepting waiting list requests for the 2016 Jolly Mon VIP King Mackerel Tournament. For those who DID qualify, PLEASE email me either stating you will not be able to participate or give me your contact information if you are interested. Thus, email me or call me at (704) 616-1615 to reserve a waiting list spot.
Attention Elite Anglers,

OK, it is that time of year when the OIFC will begin to mold its employment team for the coming season. There are job opportunities for store clerks and watersports staff. NOW IS THE TIME, to fill out your application and get it to us so we know you have interest.
We have been hosting the OIFC year-round Rodeo out of the OIFC for years. I am interested in "livening it up" and trying to infuse some new energy into the Rodeo. I am seeking readers to reply to this report with their own thoughts and ideas on how to get more interest and entry into the an OIFC tournament that extends over at least a month or longer. We currently have 3 inshore inshore species and 3 offshore species and competition is from March 15 to Dec 31. Awards are for top 3 of each species and an overall winner for scoring highest in multiple divisions. Thanks for input Capt. Brant McMullan www.OIFC.com (910) 575-3474
~~Daniel Simmons, Bryan Freeman, Brian Robbins and Ben Jordan ran out to the Blackjack Hole Thursday morning. Trolling lines in at first light, water was 69.4 degrees. No bait marks, no bites in 2 hours of working it. Picked up and ran to the 100/400. Water was 68.8 and no life there, no bites in 2 hours of working it from 150 to 300 feet. Went to plan B and found the snowy groupers in a much better mood than the
wahoos. Got a limit of snowies and some nice yellowedges. Now I just need Jeff Martini to teach me some of his secret recipes!
~~We fished 4 hrs in afternoon. The next morning we fished 4 hrs, no wahoo just bonitas and cudas 2 wahoo average 59 lb each. We slept at breaks, The temp said it was 53 degrees but the wind chill made it was cold.
Thanks for the report Wendell. He's one hard core fisherman!!
