"Cy's World Tournament" | Do Work / OIFC | 11/29/15

~~Saturday the Ocean Isle Fishing Center was blessed to once again be chosen as the host of the Cy's World Fishing Tournament.  The winners we "Team 'merica, Brandon and Clay.  Congratulations to them and all who fished .  And thank you to Ned Garber and Chris Brian for the event.

ABOUT CY'S WORLD

Cy's World was founded in 2010, to celebrate the life of Edgar Clyde Garber IV, who left this Earth too soon at age 17.

Cy was first and foremost a beloved son, brother, cousin, friend and boyfriend. Cy Garber was a senior at Terry Sanford HS, all set to matriculate to his beloved NC State, where he would pursue his dream of turfgrass management.

Cy loved the outdoors; by the time he was 2, he had learned to water ski with his Dad Ned holding him in his arms as they would spool around the waters of Ocean Isle Beach.

As Cy grew into his pre-teen years, he would learn to water ski, 'barefoot', surf, wake board, wake skate, and virtually any activity which could be done outdoors or improvised with or without adult supervision.

Later, he would make hunting another lifelong passion, participating in the annual family Labor Day dove hunt on family lands in Greene and Sampson counties. Ducks, quail, dove, it didn't matter, as long as it was safely and fairly pursued with friends and family.

Cy and his cousin Will recorded a hallmark date in December of 2008, when Cy took his first buck, a nice 8-pointer from the stand on cousin Andrew Sanderson's land in Harrell's. Will and Cy, proud parents Ned and Caroline, and sister Molly enjoyed that special moment.

Our Mission

The mission of Cy's World is to promote the lifelong love of outdoors, hunting, fishing, surfing, skiing, boating, and all those passions which Cy pursued with vigor.

The Board of Directors is comprised of family and friends. Once fund raising has reached a sustainable level, the Foundation, which is organized as a nonprofit with 501C(3) status, will begin to accept grants to focus on teaching, introducing, and compelling youth to enjoy outdoors safely, with conservation of natural resources and sustainable practices to insure these activities are here for others to enjoy for many generations.

It is expected that grants will be made to certified and qualified vendors to carry out the teaching; current charter captains in NC, fresh and saltwater fishing guides, the OIB surf camp, etc.

All those who currently teach will be supported so that they might introduce and engender these activities to others who could not afford, or might not have the family support system to make it happen. We will use certified and licensed vendors to insure safety.

Clay Morphis 11/29/2015

Capt. Rickey awesome post! I too want to thank all the captains and crews who have supported a great cause over the years. I know there is a pot "beat the Bone Crusher" AKA "team America". In order to raise the level of competition and to test your level of inshore expertise, I'm going to add another $200.00 to the team that thinks they can take the "4 peat champs down". Come out and support a great cause! Clay "Pork Chop" Morphis

"Christina's Ledge report" | | 11/28/15

Chris Campbell fished his boat the Googanator today and had 3 kings up to 32 pounds at Christina's Ledge. Although the water was a chilly 63, the fish were still there. He reported using Pirate Plugs rigged with cigar minnows. This is really late in the year to still have kings within sight of land, but this is certainly proof. Capt. Brant McMullan

Great King bite from quality fish in the 85' depth range. The water temp was 70 degrees and we caught kings on both live cigar minnows that were jigged on site and dead cigars as well. Most of the fish were in the 12-15lb range but we had a few over 20 with our biggest at 30.2. Great job by the Pagliaris of Greenville, NC Capt. Brant McMullan

"Diaz trip follow up" | OIFC | 11/25/15

We got'em! King bite was good at the Atlantic Ledge. Water temp was close to 70. The area is loaded with cigar minnow schools, and I did jig some up and use them, but most of our fish preferred dead Cigars at 30-50' depth. These were good eating size fish in the 10-15lb range. We need the weather to cooperate a little better! Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving Capt. Brant McMullan

"Bluefin Tuna BITING" | | 11/20/15

OIFC is ready for Bluefin season. We have Large Ballyhoo, 170# and 200# fluorocarbon, Bluewater Candy JAG 3 heads in the hottest colors, OIFC custom Bluefin stand-up rods, Momoi Diamond wind-on top shots in 130# and 200#.......... WE GOT IT! The Bluefin Tuna bite has begun early this year as boats have had relatively good success fishing out of Morehead City over this past week. Certainly no one can predict what the season will bring, but Bluefin biting this time of year and the average size of fish in the 80 inch range is what we used to see back in the prime, early to mid 2000's. Maybe, just maybe this is the reboot of the once incredible fishery. And even, better, maybe this means the Bluefin have a shot at making it to Ocean Isle Beach again! Capt. Rube McMullan 11/22/2015

The trick to finding the Bluefin in our Brunswick County waters is to get fishermen on the water searching for them. Anywhere along the west side of Frying Pan Shoals is where they should be. The Fairway Buoys, Raritan, Horseshoe/ect. Look for Gannets diving, porpoises and whales. If you see that you are in the right spot. We all had a ball a few years back when we found them here in our waters, and actually had a better bite than at Morehead. Maybe this is the year they will come back.
