"More on the Striper Kill at Oregon Inlet" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 01/19/11

Just got a call from one of the folks on the trip that we reported on.  He wanted us to mention that they had caught just 3 fish prior to witnessing this going on.  Once they saw what was happening, they were too disgusted and quit fishing.  The remainder of their limit was taken from the dead fish floating as they didn't see the point in killing additional fish.

"Striped Bass" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 01/18/11

Amber Simmons, Daniel Simmons, Brian Freeman and some others trekked to the Oregon Inlet for some striped bass fishing.  The recreational limit is 2 fish person, while the commercial limit was 100 per boat for this weekend.  Amber and crew were shocked at the way trawlers, pulling nets, cut right through the sport fishers.  The trawlers were catching and culling fish by the 100's.  Any fish under 40# was thrown overboard either dead or dying..they said the trawlers were decimating the striped bass population.

Daniel sent a YouTube link to back up what he was saying.  Also if you look closely at the 1st picture you'll see a trawler pulling right through the center condoles.

"Ice And Other Stuff" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 01/11/11

There is absolutely nothing to report on except ICE.  That says it all!  Brant and Steele have been busy rearranging the tackle area of the OIFC,  I've been working on finalizing Rodeo stuff and getting the fuel reports (for gas tax) ready to be mailed out.

I gave Jeff and myself a Dubro Wire Twist Tool which makes twisting haywire twists quick, easy and perfect.  You can special order one through the OIFC.  Jeff has tied enough rigs to last us most of the season.

Below are a couple of pictures I took Sunday of progress at the OIB boat ramp parking lot.

"Rodeo Trophies" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 01/07/11

The OIFC Year Round Rodeo trophies have arrived.  The prize money checks will be ready next week.  This will wind up the 2010 edition of the Rodeo.  The competition was intense and fun..just the way it ought to be.  Congratulations to the winners and everyone who made the Rodeo a success.  We're looking forward to the kick off for the 2011 Rodeo season.  I wonder who picked that trophy for the Fishing Report picture?

"OIB Boat Ramp Update" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 01/06/11

The boat ramp itself is still open.  The parking lot is closed while it is expanded.  The good news is the private parking area as you turn in the service road to the boat ramp is open.  The manager said users of the boat ramp may park there for a "small donation".  There is a donation box at the front of the parking lot.

"OIB Boat Ramp" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 01/05/11

Don't let the signs completely through you off.  The parking lot is closed..which is obvious if you'd see the construction.  But, the ramp is open and operational!  I'm not sure about the parking, but last year there was parking in the lot next to Sheffield's.  You had to put $5 in the honor system box.  I'm not sure that's still in operation, but will follow up.

"OIFC Getting Prepped for 2011- NOW HIRIING" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 01/05/11

We've started our work resetting the store, buying new product and getting things in order.  In between occasionally breaking away for a Sea Bass, Bluefin, King Mackerel trip.

As part of 2011 preparations we are now taking job applications for the Spring and Summer season.  If you have interest in joing the OIFC team for the 2011 season, please email info@oifc.com requesting a job application.  The OIFC is looking for a few good men/women.  Come join us!

The Sea Bass are thick as fleas once you get past 90 feet of water.  Inside of that are alot of Sharks.  The King bite was good southwest of the Tower in 100 feet a couple of days ago.  Look for 66+ degree water and bait.  The Bluefin are always a wild card.  They have not been caught, but you never know what you will see if you are out.  Take a couple of Bluefin worthy outfits on any offshore trip just in case you see the "Bluefin buring bush".  Stay tuned
