"Cobia bite" | Catch All | 06/02/16

Fishing the bait pods for Cobia around the cape fear river channel has paid off here in the past two days. Our 6hour charter, captain Ben Morris and I hauled in the two pictured below this morning. We also saw quite a few more with the two we caught. The timing cannot be more perfect for the Cobia clash on Saturday. Anglers interested in entering must be registered by 7am on Saturday (6/4). Visit the Cobia clash tournament page to register by clicking on COBIA CLASH in the "tournaments" drop down box on the OIFC.com page.

"Fishing is Good even on Bad days" | Tiberias - 22' | 06/01/16

I stress all the time about catching fish and often clients remind me that a bad day on the water still beats a great day at the office. The problem is this is my office and catching fish often dictates how I feel about my day. I can promise you nothing makes me more happy than clients bringing fish to the boat. My goal and hope is for all my clients to experience the awesomeness our fishery has to offer at its peak. That doesn't always happen, but most of the time we do grind out a few fish even on the bad days. Lately, the fishing has been pretty good. Flounder have been good targets that have been willing to bite. Speckled trout have also been good targets early in the morning and even a few good ones show up in the mix while targeting flounder with live baits. Black drum have been hit or miss with lots of small ones hanging around. Redfish have also been hit or miss as it seems to be fewer of these fish around right now. On calm days we have been out on the beach drilling the spanish mackerel and even picking on the sharks for good measure. Come on down and lets go find some fish! These fine folks did! See ya on the water!

"Flounder Hunter" | Tiberias - 22' | 05/31/16

Elizabeth Hunter had a blast catching some nice flounder for dinner. The flounder bite has been pretty good in our area, but lots of fish are still on the small side. Elizabeth also won the award for most species caught today. She landed toadfish, pinfish, black drum, croakers, grunts, speckled trout, flounder, and finished the day with a nice redfish. Her grandfather Jesse even pulled a shark out of the water for a little extra excitement. The water is heating up and the baitfish are getting thick. Opportunities to catch fish should get greater with each passing day. Come on down and lets go fishing! See ya on the water!

"Happy Memorial Day" | Tiberias - 22' | 05/30/16

The picture below says it all. Gus was treated by his daughters to a backwater fishing trip. As his family stands behind him and he admires the fine flounder that he caught I couldn't help but notice his hat. A man that represents a generation of men that proudly stood in front of us to protect us. A generation proud to call themselves Americans. Thank you to all those that have served and are actively serving! See ya on the water!

"COBIA CLASH UPDATE" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 05/27/16

Per angler request and the weather channel's relentless flow of exaggerated information, I've made the executive decision to change the fishing days for this years Cobia Clash. Anglers will now have the option to either fish tomorrow (5/28), Monday (5/30), Wednesday (6/1) and Saturday (6/4). Anglers must register and declare their day of fishing before 7AM of the day they wish to fish. The awards breakfast will be held Sunday (6/5) at 9am. Same rules, same boundaries, just a slight a adjustment to the fishing days. Please call me with any questions - (704) 616-1615

"Cobia Clash" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 05/27/16

The first annual Cobia Clash is still on for tomorrow. Many anglers have been skeptical due to the wind forecast yet the wind direction is key. Tomorrow the wind is forecasted to be a light northeast breeze which will flatten the beachfront and nearshore waters. This time of year is prime time to catch cobia nearshore on the bait pods and our local artificial reefs. Infact, there were quite a few caught near the cape fear river channel yesterday and today. So the bottom line is, the wind should be minimal, the fish are already wet, lets go fishing!
