Jay Godwin and his daughter Grace joined me this past Friday looking to get in on the fishing action. We hit the beach hitting the mehaden bait pods in search of a bull redfish. After patiently drifting through a huge bait pod we finally got a hit. The rod bent steadily until it reached the point of drag stripping off the reel and then popped up. Missed! Pretty sure that was a redfish bite. We made an adjustment and drifted back through that pod. A 4 pound bluefish ripped it. We made one more long patient drift through that huge school of menhaden and Grace hooked up hard. Grace made quick work of a solid 36 inch redfish. We made a few more drifts, but the bull redfish action was slow. We headed for deeper water and found a huge school of Spanish mackerel. Two other anglers were alreeady there catching them on the fly rod! We quickly deployed our Clark spoon spread and instantly hooked up on some fat 20 inch Spanish mackerel. It was just too easy on the troll. We started tossing lures at them and connected on several more nice Spanish mackerel. We worked up an appetite, so we headed for Inlet View Bar and Grill for lunch. After filling our bellies with great food, we hit a few spots in the backwater finding flounder, black drum, and croakers. It was a great day for a father and daughter to spend together on the water! See ya on the water!

Biloxi Nationals Preparation Q&A Meeting
Capt. Brant of Team OIFC will be hosting a “BILOXI NATIONALS PREPARATION” Q & A meeting at the OIFC Wing and Fish Company in Shallotte on Wednesday, October 15th @ 7:00 PM. Capt. A variety of topics will be covered from where to launch your boat, to where and how to catch bait, to what rigs to tie, to where to fish... It is a Q & A, not a monologue, so come with questions.
Team OIFC invites you to participate in the hopes that a Carolina team will once again bring home the trophy!
RSVP is requested- Email email@example.com to RSVP.
Please let us know IF you are coming and how many will be in your group. Thank you—Capt. Brant
INSHORE FISHING REPORT- Capt. Jacob Frick
The stiff westerly winds put a stop on the beach bite(Oct/5). We attempted to find bait on Friday, but it was well off the beach. We tucked tail trolling our way back for spanish. We found a few spanish, but quickly ducked back into the inlet finding calmer water. The backwater is still providing good action from flounder and some nice redfish are prowling around. See ya on the water!

With the perfect conditions we are looking at for this years Fall Brawl; probably a good idea to put out a warning for anglers to watch out for Kings jumping into your boat. Seriously, this was a problem few years ago in Biloxi at nationals and i can see the same happening at OIB this weekend. The fish are thick and when a bunch of boats fish the same area and put out a bunch of bait, the competitive thing kicks in with the fish, and they go nuts, skyrocketing. Probably best not to fish with a surface swimming bait like a mullet as you may be inviting a intruder into your boat. The fall bite is traditional, but it normally heats up and cools off with changing weather systems. This year weather looks very stable throughout the tourney, and stable weather sets them on fire. Plenty of bait up and down the beach; Kings from the beach out to 65 feet water. They're everywhere. Come join us at OIFC and help us set a new tourney participant record!
