"Daddy...Check Crab Pot?" | Tiberias - 22' | 06/07/14

My son Jasper is all about checking the crab pots with me. We had a nice surprise in one of them yesterday. This flounder escaped the frying pan by an 1/8th of an inch. Flounder will continue to ride the tides in and out of our inlets until late November. Lets go catch some! See ya on the water!

"287 lb Grouper" | Do Work / OIFC | 06/05/14

Cullen Greer of Houstin Texas caught this 6'6" Warsaw Grouper while fishin around an oil rig.  Cullen was fishing off the coast of Louisiana using a small tuna as bait.  He thought he was hung up until he gave a couple of cranks.  30 minutes later the bloated fish floated to the surface.  This is the 5th largest grouper caught in La.  The largest weighed 359.1 and was caught in 2008.

"Did u say France?" | Tiberias - 22' | 06/05/14

Parton my french. I have taken folks from Germany and now from France on fishing charters. It is a challenge to say the least when you have a slight language barrier. We definitely had some issues. The wind wasn't cooperating in our first spot and the tide was weak. We knocked over a tackle box full of lead, hooks, swivels, beads, etc...It was totally my fault for leaving the box open, but terribly aggrevating to say the least. In the meantime we continued to work on the school of redfish we just found. We hung out until we could get the boat floor clear of lead, hooks, swivels, beads, etc...We made our move to work on the flounder and this part of our trip could not have gone smoother. Everyone landed flounder and got the feel for the bite. We finished our trip targeting another group of redfish. Everyone got another chance at getting a nice redfish. The language barrier between Daniel and I created some confusion that lead to a broken line. Rufus got the next bite that he worked to the boat like a champ. Claire got the next bite and also did an excellent job at working a 25 inch redfish to the boat. Even with a few bumps and bruises along the way we managed to pull out some nice fish. Congratulations to Rufus and Claire on thier engagment. Good luck and have fun in Europe. See ya on the water!

"The Matthews Challenge" | Tiberias - 22' | 06/04/14

We caught just enough fish to avoid the other boat's wrath. Worked on the backwater critters before hitting the beach for the Spanish mackerel. The Spanish Mackerel were a bit spread out but we managed to land a dozen for dinner. A little bit of everything is biting now. Redfish and flounder are the main targets, but sheepshead, black drum and speckled trout are all possible incidental catches while looking for the main targets. It is time to get your fish on! See ya on the water!

"Citation day" | Choice of Two / OIFC | 06/04/14

Tuesday was a great day that came down to the bottem of the 9th inning again and ole Capt. J Dogg pulled another one out of his hat and hit a home run. We picked at the fish in the Shallotte River and as the tide fell I had it in my mind where I needed to be,however in route we ran across a dissabled boat in front of a steaming 80 shrimp trawler. We stopped and "payed it forward" saved the boat. So I went on to my spot and by spending 30 minutes longer to make up for the time spent towing the dissabled boat we banged out 3 nice reds and a State Citation 5.25 Flounder. Good deed rewarded.

"They do exist" | | 06/04/14

Kenny Fulcher Jr. landed this 25lb king yesterday on our 8 hour charter. The fish put up quite a fight yet Kenny hung in there and brought him within range to gaff him. We fished about 26 miles off in about 80 feet of water. The fish seem to be feeding early in the day; about 6 am -9 am. After then, the slow trolling bite went slim to none. However, this fish is a proven sign that they are on the move and should be right where we want them for the Jolly Mon King Classic this year. Capt. Derek Treffinger

"Backwater Report" | Tiberias - 22' | 06/04/14

Backwater fishing has been pretty steady lately. Redfish are starting to filter into their deeper water summer holes. Flounder are filling in and biting pretty good from day to day. Black drum, sheepshead, and trout have all been great surpises this past week as well. When the weather allows for our smaller backwater boats to get in the ocean the spanish mackerel bite has not disappointed. See ya on the water!

"Weekend Backwater and Tourney Recap" | Tiberias - 22' | 06/03/14

A huge thanks goes out to Scott Rivers for making it possible for Jake and I to fish this tournament. Scott's family lost a loved one over the weekend and could not fish the tournament with us. We dedicate our tournament effort to Scott's PawPaw. Someone must have been looking out for us because flounder fishing has been slack for me so far this year. I had only caught two keeper flounder this year until Saturday's tournament. As luck would have it we caught 4 flounder over 20 inches in the tournament with our largest weighing in at 4.87 earning us 5th place on the leader board. I was pretty confident that we would eventually find a decent redfish by the end of the day. Redfish have been my main target during the majority of my charters. We indeed found a few redfish and caught the right one for the tournament. We landed a beautiful 26 7/8 inch redfish weighing 6.35 earning us 2nd place on the leader board. It was an awesome showing for us and I couldn't be more proud of my 6 year-old son Jake. He was patient all day and caught some great fish himself including a 7.7 pound sheepshead. It looks like Jake will be hard to keep of the water in the future. I love it! See ya on the water!

Thanks to Fisherman's Post to putting together a great tournament. Ocean Isle Fishing Center is a top notch facility that makes it possible to put on great tournaments. Next tournament is the Jolly Mon King Mackerel tournament. Brant always puts together an awesome tournamnet so come on out and join us! Moreover, when entering a tournament, do yourself a favor and enter all the TWT's. If you catch just a decent fish you will not regret it.

"When a plan comes together.." | | 06/02/14

David Wilson, Allen Andrews, Mitch and Danielle Hodges joined first mate Sean Morris and I in the Gulf Stream last weekend. Conditions were perfect and the fish decided to bite. We caught the majority of our fish on floating debris offshore of the MacMarlen. The offshore migratory species such as Dolphin fish, Wahoo and Blackfin are starting to scatter inshore. However, if you find a pod of fish offshore, there will probably be two or three hanging with the fish that is hooked. Be sure to have your pitch bait rods ready for these schooling Mahi. As for the nearshore scene, the Spanish mackerel have continued to bite clarkspoons in 25-40 feet of water. For all you tournament fisherman out there, be sure to go ahead and register for the Jolly Mon King Classic this week. Early registration cut off is June 13th. Therefore, save $35.00 and register online or drop by the fishing center and fill out a form. I've gotten reports of high 30lb class fish being caught offshore in the 40 mile range - this years leader board should be a strong one. Capt. Derek Treffinger
