"Limit of Sea Bass" | Do Work / OIFC | 02/17/16

Who could resist a beautiful 64 degree day like today after the rotten weather we have had.  Certainly no Capt. Brant, Ms. Deborah Lathen and Shawn Lathem as the loaded the Cat boat up with children and caught their limit of sea bass.  Capt Brant said they used cut bait in 70 ft deep water that was 53 degrees,  The cleaning table was full

"Marlin Action in Costa Rica" | OIFC | 02/17/16

If you have been around OIFC lately, you may have noticed that KK hasn't been around too much. Well here is a little video showing off the fun she has been having in Costa Rica while she was playing hooky and the rest of us have been enduring these less than ideal temperatures and fishing conditions.

They caught 5 Blue Marlin, 2 Striped Marlin and 2 Sailfish aboard the Scatterbrain.

"Rodeo Award" | Do Work / OIFC | 02/07/16

Clay Morphis was presented his trophy for the 2015 OIFC Year Round Rodeo for Overall Inshore Champion, 1st Place Flounder as well as the OIFC Leaderboard largest flounder ever weighed in at the OIFC this afternoon at a pre Super Bowl get together.  Congratulations Clay!!!

Clay is also featured in the South Carolina Sportsman for his accomplishment. You can get the TRUE skinny on where and what Clay used in this article.  I can tell you the fish was caught in public waters on a VuDu Shrimp.

The last picture is of the 1st and 2nd place Mahi Trophies.  Congratulations to Mrs. Courtney Gray of Team Beeracuda for winnning 1st place.  The rest of the trophies are being built at the trophy shop and should be ready along with the payout checks at the OIFC by the end of the week.  I will keep everyone posted.

Capt Brant and I have reviewed feedback and will be posting the guidlines for the 2016 OIFC Rodeo shortly.  I hope it will be bigger and better!

"Tournament Update" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 02/02/16

I don’t know about you but these warm, spring-like temperatures have me thinking about one thing and one thing only – fishing. As some of you may know, I recently posted a survey on Facebook and fishing report asking anglers if they would participate in a high paying, high entry, low boat field, king mackerel tournament either in the fall or the spring. Well the results are in and it looks like I will be doing everything in my power to hold another fall king mackerel tournament out of the OIFC. Details regarding this tournament have not been released yet I hope to have format and entry info by the beginning of April.

In addition to this new event, I will also be holding a Cobia tournament over Memorial Day weekend. Similar to the other event, I have not released any details on this tournament. However, those attending the OIFC spring kickoff this year will receive information regarding this event as well as the option to enter early.

Also, those that did not qualify and have interest about being on the Jolly Mon VIP waiting list please email me at derek@oifc.com and include your name, phone #, and most convenient email address.

Even though its forecasted to get cold again soon, hopefully these announcements got your blood pumping about the upcoming fishing season. Apparently Phil the groundhog didn’t see his shadow today so maybe we’re in for an early spring? I sure hope so.

"Hot wahoo bite " | Choice of Two / OIFC | 01/31/16

~~
All my wife wanted for her birthday was to catch a wahoo...luckily I didn't disappoint...and to top it off, fresh tuna sashimi for dinner

Chris Campbell and wife Robin said the bite was hot at the MacMarlen ledge today. Here's his report to me: Bite on fire at MacScarplen. Got lines in at 8 and left at noon. 3 wahoo and a blackfin, but as usual lost more than I'd like to admit...non stop action, just me and robin, lost a slob right next to boat trying to wire him up, broke the hook in half...will send pics later for fishing report if u want Capt. "State Record White Marlin" | Do Work / OIFC | 01/28/16

~~North Carolina officials have certified that a Virginia man has set the state record for a white marlin.

Officials with the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries said in a news release Wednesday that Neil Manning of Ashburn, Virginia, reeled in the 138-pound fish Nov. 16 while fishing off Hatteras.

The fish measured 85 inches from the tip of the lower jaw to the fork in the tail. The girth of the fish measured 37 inches.

The previous state record for white marlin was 118 pounds, 8 ounces, caught off the coast of North Carolina's Oregon Inlet in 1976. The world record for white marlin is 181 pounds, 14 ounces, caught off the coast of Brazil.

Manning used live menhaden on a 30-pound test line.
