"Timed it perfect" | Get Busy | 10/06/12

It never fails. Every time I get ready to fish the jetties I roll up and they always say the same thing. They bit great yesterday or 30 minutes ago. Kinda like spot  fishing on the pier. Well today we were right on time. Jumbo live shrimp ,large menhaden or mullet minnows worked great for these guys.

Luke Foster and his dad Daniel Foster along with Shane Wallace were fishing at the Jungle when they caught these 15-20 lb Kings. Today was also Luke's first fishing trip... I think someone might want to recruit Luke for their fishing team! Good job Luke!

"U. S. Open" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 10/05/12

I am told that a 45+ lb king is leading.  Matt (of the OIFC) and his dad Ken Rich who fished aboard their new Regulator are in 2nd place with a 44+ king.  I've read of some kings in the 20+lb range being  weighed in, Michelle Evans Drake of the Getaway Adventures had one which weighed 26.15 lbs..  It's also reported that the bite was on in the River Channel and the Lighthouse Rocks.

Below are a couple of pictures, one of Katelyn Kincer and Terry Johnson who fished with the OIFC crew, the other is Grayson Russ who fished with his dad Toby aboard the Mr. Goodhands and another is of the start of the tournament.

"It's US Open time!" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 10/03/12

In the immortal works of Grandpa Mac McMullan...gentlemen; start your catfish. It's the call to Game On! US Open King tourney is here. The weather is breaking and a weak cold front will bring perfect north winds just in time for kickoff. Conditions for a classic Carolina beach bite will be perfect. It started this past weekend as the winning Rumble in Jungle tourney fish came from Yaupon. Sunday saw a good bite and we know of a 46 and 39 caught along with alot of other fish at Yaupon. Whether it's the river channel or Yaupon, it will be typical US Open where the winning fish will be very close in. Best of luck to everyone. As to strategy, the water if full of pogies/blues/spanish and ribbonfish. I would want to try to put out a spread with all of them, as the Kings will probably be keyed to one of those baits in particular. Also, anchoring and chumming is very effective this time of the year as the fish are schooled and you can draw them to you[provided you can find a piece of open ocean to work from on anchor].

Come on by OIFC; we have everything and anything you need, and will happily share any new info we hear of whats happening where.

"Wahoos and Tuna's" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 10/03/12

As Capt. Brant mentioned in an earlier post.  Fishing is REALLY hot.  I was out this past Sunday in the gulf stream and can report first hand that there are a LOT of Wahoo's and Tuna out there... Saturday looks to be a great fishing day.  Nice weather and fish around... Lets go.  We already have 1 of the 4 folks needed for a Make-Up Gulf Stream Charter.  Cost is $400 per person. Call 910-575-3474 to book your spot. If you have never been or go plenty but want to hone your skills, this it the trip for you.

"As Promised..." | Tiberias - 22' | 10/02/12

The offshore fishing has started to really dominate our reports lately. Brant has chained me to the cash register upstairs covering the store and preparing for the busy King Mackerel Tournament season. No doubt the King Mackerel have been making their presence known all up and down the beach. The weather has also cooperated on several weekends lately allowing for anglers to get on the bite. If you are after Kings, now is the time to book that trip. On the other hand, if you are looking for something a little different. Don't forget about our backwater adventures that seek after hard fighting redfish, great eating flounder, and beautiful speckled trout. Fall is the best time to be on the water. Fishing possibilites are endless and temperatures are near perfect. I love it! As promised...Check out this video from one of our backwater trips this year! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIesvKNbo0Y&feature=youtube_gdata

"Release Under Protest" | Get Busy | 10/02/12

Chip Herring and his son  Jayce Herring are pictured with this beauty they landed off of Oak Island Saturday while trolling around a school of Spanish Mackerel.  The best part is that mom caught the whole thing on HD video and it was Jayce's first Red Drum.
He was measured and released back to fight another day-under protest from Jayce!

Also pictured is Chip's daughter with the 1st fish she's ever caught.
