"Hard Core" | Get Busy | 01/25/13

You think we love to fish.  Here is hard core fishing at it's finest from our friend Brian Jack..

Brian Jack Its snowing here right now...I cant wait to go ice fishing tomorrow, the cold has finally snapped here. Its 4 and awesome. Tomorrow its going to be a high of 18..... fish be hammering my jig through the ice. Rickey, I have an underwater camera...... last week before the cold front came in...I got down 9 feet below the ice in an eddy on the Wolf River with the camera and there was a shelf of thousands of crappie staging to go up river and spawn in the spring...right in front of my new cabin. Got down to the bottom in 16ft and there were thousands of walleye, Pike, Whitebass, Catfish and Drum. Nothing would bite until I went to a light orange jig with a crappie minnow and went back up to 9 ft under the ice and hammered 50 Crappie in 1 hour....1 after another and then it went from 31f to 10f right before dark -40f windchills in 24 hrs actual temps -16f. At dark, I could barely put minnows on my jig my fingers were so hypothermic....but I was on a windy nasty

"Offshore report from sunday" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 01/21/13

Capt. Chris Dew and I had an opportunity to get offshore Sunday with the Richardson Clan from Charlotte.  The weather forecast was WRONG... Forecast was for 10kts or less, actual conditions, 20kts plus... Thanks NOAA, we enjoyed that little trick... We made the decision to fish south as there was some good water down there a few days prior and we had not been able to get a good sat shot before leaving.  Fishing ended up being fun, with a mixed bag of fish.  We managed 2 Wahoos, both citation fish, one on the planer, one on the shotgun, both on big illander style lures.  Normally, I like to fish a cedar plug on the shotgun position for tunas but the wind was suspending the cedar plug in the air so we went with something heavier.  Glad we did because our biggest wahoo ate that bait.
Throughout the day we picked at a variety of fish including several doubles and triples of Amberjacks and bonitas.  Despite the conditions we had a really fun day with steady action.  Got word after we got back that one boat to the east had gotten into a really hot bite just inshore of the 100/400 and had a limit of Wahoos(8), all of them good sized.  The fish are still out there and will be out there, all you have to do is go out there and find'em... We got some really good video while out there that I will be editing over the next few days and will get it posted on our youtube channel, this time with no Bob Marley... Apparently, postumously, he is really strict on licensing...

"Inshore bite" | Tiberias - 22' | 01/21/13

The weather made an extreme change on Friday evening. The weekend still turned out to be beautiful. A quick weather change always seems to make things difficult on the fishing front. As usually though, beautiful weather brings out the fishermen and naturally someone will find them. The jetties are still producing trout with live shrimp. The Sunset Bridge area has been producing a nice black drum bite with a few reds in the mix. You have got to be in the right spot at the right time! Live shrimp or fresh shrimp will catch them there. The shallow water is producing a good mix of reds and trout. Light jigheads tipped with your favorite soft plastics working them slowly will get an aggressive bite. Our best trip for this long weekend was this morning. We ended up getting 16 reds and 1 flounder to the boat. We saw several schools of reds with a few black drum and trout in the mix. I was shocked at how one trout hung out by the boat for several minutes. I believe the crew enjoyed seeing and catching. Conditions could not have been better today. It could be our last for a while. Middle of the week is going to be COLD! See ya on the water!

Thanks Jacob! Looking forward to going out with you again soon. Also, I'm going to book your guide service to help me learn how to fish my new Scout. Tight Lines Brother!

Capt. Jacob Frick 01/24/2013

Thanks Mason! I enjoyed celebrating with you guys! Glad the fish excepted our invitation!

Capt. Jacob Frick 01/24/2013

Tripp- I use a variety of jighead sizes from 1/16th to 1/4oz...I mostly use the 1/8oz red jighead tipped with a variety of soft plastics...my favorite soft plastics are made by Bass Assassin...4" sea shads in a variety of colors...Green moon, Albino ghost, Limetruese Ghost, and Sand trout have been the hot colors this year. Albino ghost has been producing the best results the last few weeks. If you must fish gulp baits...New Penny gets the nod by most anglers that use gulp baits. I hope you and Jenn are doing well! Thanks for the comment!

Mason Atwell 01/23/2013

"Capt. Brant and Family" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 01/20/13

Always an interesting day with Brayden around. He spent most of the day with his pants around his ankles as he thought was just too funny. Meanwhile, Caroline was busy jigging bait and I tangled with a Goliath Grouper that wore me out. Tomorrow we will put in a full day- hopefully of fun and learning for kids. Life is good.-Capt. Brant

Good Read, This is the best way, but I do suggest fishing tackle which is very useful when it is of best quality and gives fishermen an ease to work in an efficient way.
