Looking for the perfect Mothers Day gift? How about a new rod and reel from OIFC? Or maybe a better idea would be a OIFC gift card.

"Bonecrusher's Blue Water Return" | Do Work / OIFC | 05/10/17

I'm back on the blue water circuit!  My first trip of the year with Nesbitt Noble, Blake Stone and Gary resulted in catching a ~450lb blue marlin!  Fought the fish for over 2 hours on a 30 Tiagra.  13 dolphin and a handful of trigger fish.  Not a bad day.

Is that about a 60 mile ride out from OIB? How many miles do you estimate out, back and trolling?

"Shoot Out update" | OIFC | 05/08/17

Here is what leaderboard looks like.  Also, why am I getting so many people calling wanting to know how many boats are in the Shoot Out?  Are you trying to determine if the prize money is enough that its worth your while to fish the tournament?  If you call and you are waiting for the next guy to get in, and then he's on the other line asking the same thing about you, are we ever going to have a tournament to amount to anything?  I have no idea how much the payout will be as its based on you and all the other people who are calling to see how many people are entered, actually getting in the tournament.  I know the winner has walked away with multiple thousands of dollars for the 20+ years the Shoot Out has been running.  The biggest winner I recall won over $15,000 a few years back.  Last year, we had 15 boats going into Thursday of the fishing week, but by Saturday, we had 39 entries.  If you are wanting to fish the Stream for Tuna, Dolphin and Wahoo and plan a trip in the next two weeks and you want to add a little spice to the trip by competing while having a good day on the water, then enter the Shoot Out.  We have 10 boats signed up now and I passed two more guys walking into the store this evening to enter as I was headed out.  The Mahi are showing, so prepare for a good day.

Capt. Roger Gales and Brian Richard caught this Striped Bass using live shrimp today at the Crossroads in Calabash. And yes, I had to check my spelling so it wouldn't look like they caught a dancer. ;)

"Far Out Shoot Out- Boats Fishing Monday" | OIFC | 05/07/17

So far we have 8 boats registered to fish the Shoot Out.  Entry remains open for another week and half as fish days go all the way until May 20th.  But, as the weather windows show themselves, teams are steadily joining the Shoot Out.  Monday, 5/7, we thus far have three boats declared:

Brad Wood - Rats Azz

Chip Smith- Blue Eyed Lady

Julian Lennon- Max'd Out

One intesting note is that many boats are choosing to go ALL IN for the full $1200 buy in -- "if you ain't in it, you can't win it"

Stay tuned to www.OIFC.com/FOSO as we fill the leaderboard and keep you posted on whose in, whose in what, what days they are fishing and what they are catching.  You need to enter!  The numbers are going to continue to climb as teams enter and then fish.

Go to www.OIFC.com/FOSO to enter-online or visit the OIFC and enter in person.

"Road Trip!!" | Do Work / OIFC | 05/07/17

Some of the Team Do Work crew took a road trip to the Ft. Myers area of Florida this weekend for some tarpon fishing. The three, Jon Hayes, Jeremy Phillips and Jeff Beck all played college football together and have remained tight since. They report they have a fantastic guide, but the weather there was about like the weather here making fishing tough.  So far they haven't caught much, but their guide is working hard and smart plus they've had a ball. They have one more day so perhaps they'll hit pay dirt. Below are a couple snook the guys caught.

"King beach bite" | OIFC | 05/02/17

For as many years as I can remember, there has been a King bite at Ocean Crest the last few days of April. it kicked off this year in mid April due to the above normal water temp. The Kings are still there as Capt Kendel[Fishin Physician] caught a mid 20's this past weekend. Last fall there was a great late fall bite at Shallotte Ledge/Milliken Rocks and it appears the Kings remember that from last year and are back now. Good action before wind kicked up on Kings and Cobia. It should kick back in tomorrow as wind lays and goes to the north.

"Backwater Fishing Improving" | Tiberias - 22' | 05/01/17

Speckled trout and redfish have been the main event so far this spring with some flounder showing up in the mix. Flounder fishing should continue to improve each day with peanut menhaden showing up in the waterway. As more bait fills our backwater predators should follow and get more active. Those that can get their hands on live shrimp will give themselves more opportunities to catch reds and speckled trout. Live mud minnows will work on reds and that is what I have been doing best with lately. Speckled trout will still take a variety of artificial baits like vudu shrimp, 4" saltwater assassins, vudu mullet, and gulp shrimp. Speckled trout and bluefish will also hammer a topwater plug like zara spooks and top pups by mirrolure. Expect fewer bites using topwater, but what an exciting way to get hooked up! Stop by the store to get the latest fishing reports and let the associates get you hooked up with the right gear. Come on down and lets go fishing. See ya on the water!

"Another Gulf Stream School Success" | Catch All | 04/27/17

The Gulf Stream action was red hot yesterday for our second Gulf Stream School. Ed Smith, Randy Cavender, Greg Wellen, and Bob Savage experienced first hand how great the Gulf Stream can be this time of year. While learning how to rig baits and setting lines, the school ended up getting 7 blackfin, 4 wahoo and 3 dolphin to the boat. After the dust settled the crew confirmed that they took every bit of it in and how beneficial the class was. Great job guys!

We have one opening for this Monday’s (5/1) Gulf Stream School. Call 910-575-3474 to reserve the last spot today!
