"Tubs Inlet Flounder" | Do Work / OIFC | 06/19/17

This big Flounder was caught this weekend by Gracie Baxley while she was fishing from a dock with her boyfriend in Tubbs Inlet. Gracie said she was using some kind of fake bait when her boyfriend caught some minnows.  She said they added a minnow to the artificial and that's when the Flounder struck. Gracie did not weigh the flatfish but I'd guess it to be citation

"Jolly Mon Wrap Up" | Choice of Two / OIFC | 06/19/17

Congratulations to Team Do Work/OIFC for winning the 2017 Jolly Mon. Along with the pride of winning they took home a whopping $32k earnings to include Kingfish Cup winnings. Capt Jeff Beck said they caught the 42 lb king at the Jungle on a ribbon fish at 10:30am. He said right after that their electronics went out....everything but the motors was gone. They cruised to the Shallotte Inlet and rode around the Shallotte Buoy until 2pm.  Crew member Jeremy Phillips said he heard the buoy in his sleep all night.

Below are pictures of the top 3 winners

Once again Capt Brant put on a great Rock The Dock competition. We had over 30 young contestants who were allowed an assistant and were cheered on by throngs of proud parents and grandparents. The Bite started a little slow, but the pinfish showed up, followed by a hot crab bite and ended with a very good Flounder bite. Thanks to all involved and we hope everyone had fun

Capt. Derek just sent me this picture. He's on a 4 hour charter and you can see the beach in the background. This isn't the biggest King, but its not bad considering all the super small fish we've been seeing- AND, most importantly, there are King Mackerel on the beach!

"Epic Day" | Do Work / OIFC | 06/11/17

The title is borrowed from Amber Nichole's description of her day on the water. Meanwhile the Black Pearl had their own epic day in the blue water catching grouper, mahi, b-liners and more.  Back near shore I took my new Parker out for the 1st time since I've had her and the 1st time since my 2nd heart procedure in May. It was epic!

"Backwater Report" | Tiberias - 22' | 06/11/17

Fishing has been good this past week. Black drum, redfish, speckled trout, sheepshead, and even some flounder have found the business end of the fishing pole the past few days. Live shrimp has been the ticket to get all sorts of bites from all species and live shrimp keeps the action steady. Everything from 5 pound trout to car hood size stingrays like to nibble on shrimp. Live mullet minnows have provided a decent bite from flounder and small menhaden are finally starting to fill up the waterway. Small menhaden have taken patience to find in our area as they have remained scattered. The Holden beach area and Lockwood folly area has seen more bait their way. We are starting to see more here in the Ocean Isle area each day. Below are a few pictures from this past week's action. Remember folks we do have a facebook page  that provides more pictures and a report as well. Thanks for fishing with us! See ya on the water!

"Long range Jolly Mon report" | OIFC | 06/09/17

It's still a little too far to have a good picture of what to expect with the Kings for the Jolly Mon, but here's the first shot as i see it.

I was on water last week and water color in 65-80 feet was King green. Inshore water wasn't as nice. Pogies are scattered, best toward the east. Most are small but you have to pick from school to school to find the right ones.

There was a good King bite last week on a north wind at Lighthouse Rocks, and later as wind moved back to south, Kings at Shark Hole.

Looking forward toward JM week, looks like we settle into a summer pattern with Bermuda high. My guess is the Kings will be where they should be, best in the 65-80 range. If south wind not too strong, certainly good be fish at Long Beach pier/Yaupon/river channel.

SO....at this stage...they could be anywhere. Standby as this report should get more refined as we get closer to tourney time.

Join us at the activities beginning Wednesday with the VIP; Thursday with the kiddies Rock the Doc; Friday with the Jr. Jolly Mon; and Saturday/Sunday with the Jolly Mon Classic.

"Jolly Mon Training" | OIFC | 06/09/17

Blakely is in full traning mode for her first Jolly Mon next week.  Fresh off kindergarten graduation she has shifted focus towards "one of those cool fishing necklaces" or in my mind one of those monster king mackerels.  Before the rain this week we got in some hot and heavy practice on 10-20lbers.  No tournament winners tested us but we had plenty of good practice opportunities from a decent class of fish.  They were plentiful, hungry and reachable from a bay boat.  Team OIFC 2.0 is ready for the Jolly Mon and the KFC!

"Stable Weather Produces" | Catch All | 06/05/17

With a few days of stable weather this past weekend, quite a few folks headed offshore to try their luck. The dolphin fishing has slowed in the 100-200-foot range but while in the 200-700-foot range the water clarity changed and so did the dolphin action. There were also a couple blue marlin releases in this range. Definitely adds some excitement to a slow day of dolphin fishing. Bottom fishing and slow trolling in the 30-40-mile range has really been the go to fishery if looking to fill the fish box up. Vermillion snapper, black sea bass, and scamp grouper have been biting in this range as well as a few king mackerel. The shark fishing has been red hot along the beach also. Belly strips of king mackerel or Spanish mackerel have been producing the most frequent and largest bites from the sharks. Spots are quickly filling up on the charter boats this week. If looking to go fishing within the next two weeks, the time to book is NOW. Call 910-575-3474 to book today.
